Microwave extraction of champa (Campomanesia lineatifolia Ruiz & Pav.) fruit: alternative to obtain natural antioxidants Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Otalvaro-Álvarez,Ángela María; Pabón-Baquero,Ludy Cristina; Rendón-Fernández,Margarita Rosa; Chaparro-González,María Patricia.
Abstract Champa (Campomanesia lineatifolia Ruiz & Pav.) is a fruit tree that belongs to Myrtaceae family and is native from the Amazon. Champa fruit has special organoleptic characteristics like its flavor and is an important source of phenolic compounds useful in food industry. Currently, the postharvest process of champa fruit needs to be improved due to fruit losses, which had achieved a 97%. In this sense, the aim of this research was to evaluate microwave extraction to obtain extracts enriched in phenolic compounds from champa fruit. The evaluated variables were as follows: microwave power (100-200W), extraction time (1-2min) and solvent (water, ethanol-water 70:30 and ethanol-water 96:4), respectively. Results showed that the best condition to...

Oregano essential oil as food additive for piglets: antimicrobial and antioxidant potential R. Bras. Zootec.
Henn,João Dionísio; Bertol,Teresinha Marisa; Moura,Neusa Fernandes de; Coldebella,Arlei; Brum,Paulo Antônio Rabenschlag de; Casagrande,Maurício.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of oregano essential oil on the performance and on the occurrence of diarrhea in weanling pigs, as well as its antioxidant and antimicrobial activity evaluated in vitro. It was compared four treatments (diets): negative control; positive control, 0.5% ZnO (preventive diarrhea) + 0.05% zinc acitracin (growth promoter); or 0.003% of essential oil of oregano, combined or not with preventive of diarrhea. Weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion were evaluated from 27 (weaning) to 62 days of age of the animals, and the occurrence of diarrhea was evaluated on the first 14 days of the experiment. The positive control diet and the oregano oil + zinc oxide diet were the ones that provided the...

The Effects of Different Media, Sucrose Concentrations and Natural Additives on Plantlet Growth of Phalaenopsis Hybrid 'Pink' BABT
Zahara,Meutia; Datta,Avishek; Boonkorkaew,Patchareeya; Mishra,Abha.
ABSTRACT The effects of various sucrose concentrations as carbon source and natural additives in different media on plantlet growth of Phalaenopsis hybrid 'Pink' were studied. Plantlets were cultured on two media (Murashige and Skoog [MS] and Vacin and Went [VW]) supplemented with 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 g L-1 sucrose either with 0, 10 and 20% (v/v) coconut water (CW) or carrot juice (CJ) as natural additives. After four months of culture, the combination of sucrose and CW supplemented with both media affected plantlet growth where most of the plantlets showed slow growth and survival frequency (0-80%) with increasing concentrations of CW in all sucrose concentrations. However, plantlet growth on both media containing only 20 g L-1 sucrose without CW was...

Araujo, Hellen Patricia de Oliveira; Paula, Nelcino Francisco de; Martello, Hariany Ferreira; Teobaldo, Ronyatta Weich; Pereira, Luana Barros; Mora, Lays Martins; Valentim, Jean Kaique; Antunes, Hellen Cristina Ferreira.
This work was carried out to evaluate the inclusion of urea and tannin in multiple supplements on ingestive behavior of cattle in pasture. The experiment was taken in the Cattle Nutrition pasture of the Experimental Farm of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, in 4 x 4 Latin square design with a factorial arrangement 2 x 2 (with and without urea and with and without tannin). Four Nellore bulls were used, with average weight of 470 kg and an average age of 20 months, randomly divided in: Supplement without urea and without tannin, Supplement without urea and with tannin, supplement with urea and without tannin, and supplement with urea and with tannin. The level of supplementation used was 1% of body weight during the dry period of the year. The...
